| Introduction | I am a seventh grade Language Arts teacher. I love my job (most days), and I’m always looking for opportunities to become a better teacher. This Summer I’m looking forward to being a part of the Fulbright Hays Seminar to Mexico. As I participate in this program, I want to use this blog to share and reflect on my experiences and to model writing for my students. In our seventh grade Language Arts classroom students journal on a daily basis. Their journals give them a place to reflect, expand their ideas, and slow down their thinking. After taking a class at the Weisman Art Museum on how to use art to teach writing, I implemented a process called Perceive into the students' weekly writing. Once a week students journal about a work of art answering the four questions: What do you observe? What is the mood? How do you connect? What questions do you have? I will use these same questions as a starting point for my writing this summer. Just like my students‘ writing, I’m not sure where this will take me, but I’m excited to find out. |
