| Introduction | Barbara Stone is a self taught artist living in Colorado. Since 1980 she has made hundreds of colored pencil drawings noting important and provocative life experiences with polar bears as each pictures’ subject. These drawings and water colors have been displayed in Barbara’s galleries, in Longmont Colorado and Whidbey Island, Washington, in 15 personal exhibitions in Canada, 3 in Japan, Tokyo, Hokaido, and Chino, at Chicago’s Brookfield Zoo and the Los Angeles Zoo. Her designs have been used by the National Wildlife Foundation, Audobon Society, and Sierra Club. Her art is in the collection of the White House Easter Egg Roll housed at the Smithsonian Institute and in that of the Empress of Japan in Tokyo . In June 1997 she was featured in an ABC special, “Arctic Terror” that explored her experiences in the North. In 2001 she represented Hospice in Japan with stories of individual art pieces that demonstrate of how friends and acquaintances have found the images of polar bears helpful when grieving the loss of a loved one, facing life threatening illness and as an aid in pain management. www.polarbeargallery.com |
