| Introduction | Born and raised in Moscow, Russia, I moved to the United States when I was nine, two years after the fall of Communism. While my whole extended family stayed in Russia, my mother and I moved to Orange County, California and lived there for fifteen years until my move to Portland in January of 2009. My upbringing within two separate cultures has shaped my art, music and poetry strongly in an attempt to understand my own identity in addition to my history, perspectives on life, culture and people. Within my art, I try to focus on the coexistence of humanity and nature and how people can pose a threat and create need for adaptation within nature, as well as the beautiful intermingling it sometimes creates. I am also very curious about little minutae within the everyday humdrum. Through my art, and the process of it, I hope to move others into creating their own story of the pieces in front of them, to get lost in their environment, shapes and forms. My utilization of motion and reacting emotion is made vulnerable in the decisive strokes and shades, focused mainly into a smooth, organic path. |
