| Introduction | Sewing.. my mom would sit and whip up a sundress, curtins or a bonnet. She made it look easy and when I anwsered and ad posted at my high school for a student to do sewing alterations and repairs at a local dry cleaners I thought ' hey, I can sew...I had home economics.. how hard could it be'. I responded to the ad and luckily for me the owner would say, " I know you know how to sew on a button, but I will show you how I sew on a button." and it was like that with everything he needed me to do. He taught me how to shape and mold fabric to fit and to hang well. I learned to sew by deconstructing and then reconstructing, For what ever reason deconstructing worked in my head and I could make anything. It seemed so natural and so easy and I found it very soothing and rewarding. Years went by and jobs changed, sometimes in the sewing field and sometimes not. It has always been my creative outlet and I have always made 'useful' things. It soothes my soul and gives me balance. |
