| Introduction | I am a native of the piney woods of North Louisiana, where I grew up awkwardly and ate a lot of fried chicken before higher education lured me to Athens, Georgia. There I earned a PhD in American History and, more importantly, a cadre of friends and memories that revolved around food, drink, dance parties, and meetings at the crossroads of intellect and culture. I am a historian, a writer, a romantic, a foodie, and an underemployed dreamer. I live in Austin now with my perfectly nerdy fiancee John and our two pretentious cats. Family and food are the matrix through which I know both my life and this city. |
