IntroductionThe penultimate moment of my career was the Loneliness of the Sidewalk Preacher, in front of the Disney Store on 7th Avenue and 42nd Street, in 1997. After that I was invited to take my anti-consumerist comic sermons downtown, to community gardens and construction projects, into the corruption of New York City - and a series of trips from the Astor Place Starbucks to a correctional facility called The Tombs. So for ten years we've been trying to get people to abandon this globalized retail economy, for personal spiritual and eoonomic and artistic reasons. Stop Shopping! Get Local! But really - there is only one great preacher, and that is the Earth. The wind and the rain, the fires and floods, are shouting to us consumers: Change the way you live! Change-a-lujah! Specialties We exorcise cash registers, take shopping confessions, energize boycotts and parades with a radical choir, conduct weddings and baptisms and memorials for those inclined to move on from a specific religion... an embrace of the non-judgemental big faith that invites everyone of us... Amen?
