Introduction	College and high school sports are one of the building blocks of American life, as a formative experience for participants and as a riveting source of entertainment and debate. In a world where news is delivered breathlessly 24 hours a day and commented on constantly in a snarky, simplistic manner just as often, one (more) man can't help but add his opinions to the feed. I don't claim to be smarter than any other commentators, I do claim to have a strong feel for the issues as former college and high school athlete and coach, a longtime sports reporter and as the parent of a current NCAA Division I athlete. Be it known I've got a soft spot for the small colleges of the land as a University of La Verne grad who coached at Dominican University of California and was the athletic director at The Evergreen State College. I root for my parents' alma maters, Cal and Oregon State, and my daughter's school, New Mexico State. That said, get ready for me to say a lot more in the coming days and weeks and years.
