| Introduction | ‘Seeking Artemis’ Inspired by the caryatids that stand sentinel to the gallery this exhibition would explore the artists’ approach to aspects of womanhood. A woman can never be defined as a single thing – a mother? , a wife?, a homemaker? , a career woman? - Just like the ancient Greek symbol of the femininity, Artemis, every woman is a multi-layered entity and it is these different facets that this all female group seek to explore. Whether it is by looking at woman’s place in society, historically or today, or looking deeper into their own conceptions of their own womanhood these artists will present a journey to find the ‘Artemis’ within us all. |
