IntroductionRoberta Burnett has a continuing interest in the poetry of witness, the lyric poem and the narrative. She was an arts columnist and reviewer for the Arizona Republic for six years. Her first book of poems, Trying Not to Look, was published by Flarestack Poetry in the UK in 2009. Her M.F.A. in poetry (2000) is from Vermont College of Fine Arts, Montpelier, Vermont, continuing with post-graduate work in creative non-fiction and poetry at Arizona State University. Her B. A. and M.A. in English are from California State University, Long Beach, allowing her to teach writing, semantics, and literature at colleges and universities for 18 years. She has attended the six Virginia G. Piper Creative Writing Conferences in Arizona and writers' workshops with the University of Montana at Yellow Bay, Pima College Writers Workshop, Tucson, AZ, and Writers at Work, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She received two travel grants from the Arizona Commission on the Arts to attend the out of state workshops. She was named one of ten best public-relations executives in Phoenix by the New Times (1984).
