| Introduction | A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Chris Bradshaw was exposed to a variety of cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. In the mornings he would ride to a prestigious private school where opportunities were endless and hope was plentiful for the privileged. In contrast, his evenings were spent in the depleted communities surrounding Tennessee State University. With encouragement from his mother, he volunteered with the Metro Action Commission, a local program dedicated to the delivery of services such as GED tutoring, school lunches, and assistance to individuals that have secured housing after being homeless. It was around the same time that he discovered the joy of working with youth as a volunteer with the Middle Tennessee chapter of 100 Black Men. These experiences were invaluable as they transformed his sense of social equity and reoriented his thoughts towards social justice. |
