About me

Introduction I have lived and worked in Sussex for over 35 years. I trained in Fine Art at Bath Academy of Art. In the early 1990s I co-founded the “Oakleaf Exhibition Space” in Lewes with the ceramicist Jo Hall. I have exhibited widely in Sussex, in Lewes, Worthing, Brighton and Ashdown Forest, and also in Bath, Boscastle and at the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts. My materials are varied, from natural and found objects to wax, string and more conventional drawing mediums. I create my artwork from my own photographs of modified china dolls, nature from around Sussex, and sculptures I originally made for my “Museum of Curiosity” – an intricate installation developed whilst working at Zu Studios in Lewes. Much of my artwork is based on nature, the spirit of folk tales and our cultural relationships with our amazing and varied landscape - the deeper, unseen history of its people. My artwork evolves and creates itself naturally. I enjoy the materials I work with, but I do not wish to get stuck in a rut with them. Beeswax, natural fibre, rag are all tactile and carry that ancient feel when you have rubbed them together; I do like to feel part of what I create.
