Introduction Plotting the Character-Driven Novel, created from my popular writing class, and The World Is One Place: Native American Poets Visit the Middle East, co-edited with Diane Glancy, are my 8th and 9th published books. My third novel, Every Hidden Fear, was named a Best Book of 2014 by the National Latina Book Club. My second novel, Every Broken Trust, was a Las Comadres National Latino Book Club selection. My first novel, Every Last Secret, won the Malice Domestic Competition and was published by St. Martin's Press/Thomas Dunne Books. I've published two books of poetry, Heart's Migration (2010 Thorpe Menn Award for Literary Excellence) and Skin Hunger, and edited Woven Voices: 3 Puertorriquena Poets Look at Their American Lives,(International Latino Book Award). I received the Elvira Cordero Cisneros Award and the Midwest Voices and Visions Award. I'm president of the Border Crimes chapter of Sisters in Crime. I am a long-time feminist, activist, and unashamed liberal and live with my husband, rambunctious Plott hound, and about three million books.
