Introduction On Twitter: @ECSmart As an early educator, I have been lucky to have had experiences working in almost every aspect of the field--child care, public schools and informal learning environments. Each of my experiences have provided me with the chance to try something new: teaching, training, developing curriculum and assessment, observing and facilitating play, and monitoring and evaluating programs. EC Smart started as a way for me to share what I've learned about different aspects of the field. I hope it inspires some to try something different or ask, "why?"
Interests My career has allowed me to teach and advocate for children, parents and families and play. Not only have I taught in early childhood and early childhood special education classrooms, but also have provided teachers with training/support. I have a B.S. in Journalism and M.Ed in Early Childhood and Special Education. Inspired as a ECSE classroom aide, I have since taught in an integrated EC classroom and led a program team in the public schools. More recently, I have provided early education support nationally through training and has participate in EC curriculum development. Most recently, I worked at a nationally recognized children's museum providing parent support, research, training and professional development support. I'm also a freelance writer. What motivates me: Empowering childrens' families with knowledge about child development, the power of play and what quality early childhoood/preschool looks like. My career has allowed me to "see it all." Sometimes, I wish I hadn't see all that I have seen (yes, it was that bad). But, I have also seen some of the best classrooms and met some of the best teachers. This website is for all EC professionals, no matter where they are or who they work for. Perfection by other's standards shouldn't be your ultimate goal, but instead doing what's best for children.
