Introduction Dewangga Sakti literally means Magical Tapestry. Founded in 2000, this ensemble attempts to bring age old ethnic Malay music to the contemporary audiences of today. The group revives traditional song forms such as zapin, inang, asli, joget etc which forms the very foundation of Malaysia’s folk musical tradition. Dewangga Sakti’s music is characterized by a strong passion for traditional rhythm and melodic forms, while imbuing it with creative ornamentation and a new vigour. Dewangga Sakti has released their debut CD; an EP (mini album) entitled Mabok Kepayang (Lovesick) in June 2008.Currently, they are recording materials for their full album to be released in 2015. Apart from performing at formal and non-formal functions, the band also involved with Tourism Malaysia promotion abroad – Taiwan (2006), Japan (2006 & 2008), China ( 2007) and Korea (2009). The group consists of Azman Azahar (vocals/ acoustic bass), Zulkifli Ramli (Gambus/oud), Norman Soo (violin), Abdul Raof (percussion), Wahyun Anwar (percussion) and Irwan Effendy (accordion). contact: dewanggasakti@yahoo.com *013-2078407/0172021097
