IntroductionThere is a scene from Akira Kurosawa's film "Dreams" in which a young "I" comes upon Vincent Van Gogh (played by Martin Scorcese) while he is painting. The Young "I", with eisle and paints tucked away under his arm, ardently runs towards Van Gogh. The painter is standing alone in the middle of a golden field of wheat, feverishly engorged in painting the scene, and has a fresh bandage around his head. As the young man approaches, with a kind of awestruck admiration written on his face, he says in french: "Pardon me, but aren't you Vincent Van Gogh?" Van Gogh seems not to notice the young man at first, but continues voraciously marking his canvas with his brush until at last the great painter, out of politeness but obviously annoyed at having to stop his work, turns to the young man and asks almost angrily: "Why aren't you painting?" He gestures to the scene before them. "To me this scene is beyond belief"
