Introduction | I am a retired primary school headteacher who moved to Lanzarote for the year-round sunshine, the amazing landscape and the slower pace of life (Mañana really means mañana here). I have been married for 45 years, have a son and daughter and 13 year-old twin grandchildren. I relish the time to do what I like at last; get up when I want to, go to bed when I want to. Of course there are things I miss about England: the song of the robin and blackbird in my garden and watching the blue-tits nesting, the theatre, the art galleries, the cathedrals, but I get my fix on the visits back to Blighty and travels further afield. This is my home now, in every sense. |
Interests | Reading, writing (blogs, poetry, letters), walking (not too strenuous), swimming (gently), history (especially family), old photographs, current affairs (I read the newspaper and listen to radio 4, and find myself shouting at sloppy journalism and editorship), listening to music. |
Favorite Movies | Far too many. I love biopics like Chaplin and Frida, anything that comes with a history lesson like Zulu, The Right Stuff. Shakespeare on film; Brannagh’s Henry V, Olivier’s Hamlet. Girl With a Pearl Earring, Shakespeare in Love, Film Noire, Classic TV dramatisations: I Claudius. Bleak House, Blackadder, The Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (R4 version), One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest |
Favorite Music | Everything except Country. Gary Moore, Queen, Pink Floyd, Santana, The Chieftains, Jools Holland, Bruch’s Violin Concerto, Karl Jenkins, Allegri’s Miserere, opera, electric folk, Irish... |
Favorite Books | As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning, and The Firstborn (Laurie Lee), Birdsong (Sebastian Faulks), Perfume (Patrick Susskind), Palgrave’s Golden Treasury, Come Hither (Walter de la Mare), Collected Poems (Charles Causley), The Falco Series (Lindsey Davis)................... |
Well, maybe they don't need them, but don't you think that some fish might like a bicycle?
Perhaps, but I think they'd flounder.
