| Introduction | I am in private practice as a counsellor and facilitator, accredited by the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and also an appointed Qualified Financial Advisor with New Ireland Assurance, one of Ireland's leading Life Assurance, Pensions and Investments Company. I am also a Mortgage Intermediary. This was not always the case, as I started out in life in the drinks industry as a third generation publican in the Barge Inn licensed premises,on the banks of the Grand Canal,Dublin,at the lock near the Luas stop at Ranelagh Bridge,close to Portobello. During this time,I became interested in how alcohol affects the relationships of those close to one whose relationship with alcohol is out of balance.Dis-harmony,dis-function and dis-grace follow, and lives become unmanageable.Difficulties around Money, Authority and Need are some of the main problem areas to be found wanting in this arena."Abandoned" spouses and partners become "pub widows/deserted wives", and the children are "orphaned" in the process. Adult Children of Alcoholics/Dis-functional families tend to repeat in the next generation, that which went before. My interest is in begining to break that cycle. |
