| Introduction | My background includes two decades of newspaper journalism and punditry, as well as book reviewing, assorted public relations, science writing and technical editing, and magazine publishing in religion. My education includes undergraduate majors in mathematics and English, and extensive graduate work in English and communication. I am completing an M.A. in creative writing. My abiding interests include literature and writing, Appalachian culture and religion, Tennessee politics, and issues related to developmental disabilities. My writing has been published in 46 languages, and stories and articles by me have appeared on the cover of USA Weekend, on the AP and UPI wires, and in newspapers and magazines across the nation. Dolly Parton marched beside me in the Sevier County High School Band in 1963-4. |
