| Introduction | Writing is no less my passion now than it was two years ago when I stopped making entries to this blog. I had completed the commitment I made at the beginning of the year to blog through the election of 2008. Not being good at multi-tasking, I wanted to write a memoir of my experiences in Taiwan without other writing obligations. For the better part of two years, I worked at that task and the result is a manuscript I titled, Fireproof Moth: A Missionary in Taiwan’s White Terror. Until I find a publisher, I’ve done all I’m going to do with it. Now, I am free to take up the blog again, but this time I have a different focus. I want to continue writing about politics that matter, but I will feel free to write about religious issues in ways that I didn’t before; cooking because it is also a passion; animals because of the furred and feathered friends in our household who daily remind me that bettering the present is not just about humans; and most anything else that helps to make better sense of the world. Looking ahead, I anticipate insights that I never before imagined and actions that may make the present better. |
