Favorite Movies I'll need to give this a lot of thought. TBA. Rest assured, I have seen plenty and enjoyed a fair number (and none above PG-13). I'm more likely to delve into "chick flicks" than purely action features, but cannot otherwise characterize my tastes, since plenty of "chick flicks" lack substance, in my opinion.
Favorite Music eccentrically eclectic and apparently thoroughly antiquated - but to name some: Air Supply, bagpipes, Celtic, classical, Enya, Gregorian chant (briefly?), hymns and other religious stuff, Michael W. Smith (sort of?), minor selection of pop, soundtracks generally(?) "Brigham Young said, 'There is no music in hell' . . . However, some loud sounds are currently masquerading as music--which would seem to help qualify hell as hell." --Neal A. Maxwell "The music was so loud we couldn't even hear it . . . we just felt it! . . . I stood there in my white shirt and tie and said to myself, 'This is hell. I have stumbled into Sodom and Gomorrah.' . . . I had always thought that pop music, though often insipid, was at least harmless, but that was no longer the case. . . . As social values deteriorated and record companies increasingly became advocates of the new morality, I knew that I would eventually have to get out of the record business. Other Latter-day Saints in the business sensed the same thing. . . . Obscene lyrics find their way into Church dances and into the homes of Church members. Words we would never permit to be spoken or read in our homes are played, sung, and repeated dozens of times--merely because they are set to music." --Lex de Azevedo "So over time we will continue to see a steady deterioration of what is acceptable in movies, on television, in pop music (which, in the case of rap lyrics, isn't even music at all), and, perhaps in our most dangerous contemporary foe, abuse of the Internet." --Jeffrey R. Holland "The more beautiful the music by which false doctrine is sung, the more dangerous it becomes. I appeal to all Latter-day Saints, and especially to our choirs, never to sing the words of a song, no matter how beautiful and inspiring the music may be, where the teachings are not in perfect accord with the truths of the gospel" --Heber J. Grant
Favorite Books I'll have to give this one much more thought. I select a book of the year on the basis of didactic purposes alone - though I am known to read recreationally. ;-) I've possibly forgotten more than many people have ever read - as my sister taught me to read by 4 and I certainly have been into it. Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan, The Holy Temple by Boyd K. Packer, The Miracle of Forgiveness by Spencer W. Kimball, Man: His Origin and Destiny by Joseph Fielding Smith
