Introduction Poet, activist and Visiting Scholar in African American Studies at the University of Houston, Ayana R. Abdallah, Ph.D.developed two seminars taught Spring 2010 Writing Black Women's Radical Future:Readings in Octavia Butler and slated for Fall 2010 Black Women's Speculative Fiction. Her published essays include "Finding Some Space the Text as Creative Resistance to Oppression: A Study of Bessie Head's A Question of Power," "Privileged Identity: Representation of Subjectivity in Their Eyes Were Watching God," poetry in the Iowa Journal of Cultural Studies, "XXX: A Poem for Adrienne Piper" and her dissertation Africentric Transgressive Creativty: A Reader's Meditation on Octavia Butler.
