Introduction	I'm a writer. I learned to write by writing. Isn't that odd? The first serious piece I ever wrote was a dissertation for my Masters degree in Philosophy from the Catholic University of Louvain (that's in Belgium). As a piece of writing It was awful. Back in the States I went to work for an insurance company and wrote reports. Lots of them. I then signed on with The Hearst Corporation. I toiled for the next 33 years in the world of publishing, handling a variety of assignments in New York and in Troy, Michigan. Along the way I wrote marketing plans, sales promotions, ad copy, speeches, and yes, lots of reports. I was learning the craft. Outside of work I edited newsletters and wrote journals, articles, essays, and letters to the editor. And books. Nine of them so far. Now I write mostly opinion pieces for my local newspaper to annoy my liberal friends. Pieces like the ones in this blog. My readers huff and puff when they don't agree with me. That's OK. As I've always said, the most hurtful response for a writer is indifference.
