| Introduction | I am a PHD student, studying Media, Film and Communications Studies (MFCO) at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand. My current research is centred on the upcoming Hobbit movie by director,Peter Jackson. I am focussing on the fan reception to the movies through a survey of online fan websites and discussion boards in the lead up to the films‘ release. It is my aim to explore the way fans use these particular websites, and how the sites are also used by the studio and director to market the films. I begun this project in November 2009, and aim to complete it by the end of 2012. |
