| Introduction | I was born in Searcy, Arkansas during the great depression and become the oldest of ten children. Life was hard and jobs were scarce in Arkansas which forced many households to become involved in “bootlegging” to feed their families. The continued lifestyle of poverty prompted Footsie Watkins, his family and other relatives to migrate north to Illinois for a better way of life! As a youngster, I was expected to work and contribute to the welfare of my family of which I did. I lived and have been able to draw from these experiences many stories of hope and disillusionment lined with sadness and humor. I have always wanted to write and tell the stories about the many aspects of my life along with other subjects but was always too busy making a living….much valuable time wasted! A few years ago, I entered a writing contest and won first place! This whetted my appetite to write even more which led to some of my work being published. It is my hope that I may write and utilize this Blog to share my experiences, thoughts and stories with my family and others for their enjoyment. |
