| Introduction | I began studying classical voice seriously when I was 54, after being "discovered" in a Lana Turner moment, singing fron the back pew of my local Unitarian church. When I told someone which arias and roles I was comfortable singing, they told me the correct fach for those roles was "baby dramatic" hence the name of this blog. My vocal technique keeps improving but my chances of being "anybody", even in "community opera" living as I do in the "armpit of Lincoln Center" is practically nil. But I soldier on. Currently I am a choir member and unpaid soloist at a Lutheran church. From time to time I produce my own concerts. And no matter what, I always dress the part. Even if I am only an ersatz diva, I can always make sure I look like a real one. I was inspired to start this blog after I saw the movie Julie and Julia. Julie was neither the world's greatest cook nor the world's greatest writer, but her writing about her passion for cooking became a ticket to fame. |
