| Introduction | I grew up in a small town in the south east. In small towns the values and ideas that were taught to me I held without questioning. I am currently enrolled as a student at one of the major research universities in the south east, where my studies have sparked my interest in political issues. As a college student I have the opportunity and responsibility to branch out and discover what I believe for myself. The basis for my ideas are now coming from the cultivation of personal thought and research. One issue that has caught my attention is health care in the United States. I've experienced the need there is for better health coverage for U.S. citizens through working with non-profit organizations. While the work that was done was beneficial to those who were on the receiving end, not everyone is so lucky to be shown the same kindness. Universal health care is a controversial issue however. The cons to this proposed policy are also weighty. In the dilemma over universal health care for the United States weighing the pros and cons of is what I strive to do in order to reach a logical conclusion. |
