| Introduction | I am a disabled person and author of the book “HANDI-CRAPPED”. My journey has taken me through many twists and turns while trying to maintain my sense of humor. Since I was a child, I’ve loved to observe all kinds of people in all kinds of situations. How people deal with issues has always fascinated me. Normal, everyday events have always provided me a window into people’s lives. Never have I been so keen to observations as when they are directed at me as disabled though. As I see them respond to my disability, I’m once again drawn to their response. The first time I was approached in public and directly asked about my disability, it was uncomfortable to say the least. I was unprepared to respond to questions about myself. Seldom though, have I ever just walked up to a random person on the street and said, “Hey, was your power out this morning, or did you mean to wear that tie with that shirt?” Ultimately though, I am a very blessed person who has it easier than most. I have the love of my wife and children and a group of friends that surrounds me with support. May you all feel the love that I do and spread it to others. |
