About me

IndustryEducation
OccupationProfessor
IntroductionI've taught at the Mount for 20 years, almost exlusively teaching writing courses, my lifelong interest and passion. Before becoming a teacher, I had a professional writing career. I was a senior staff writer for The Financial Post in Toronto for years, followed by a four-year stint as an Atlantic Canada-based freelance writer. I've lived in various Canadian cities other than Halifax-Dartmouth: Corner Brook, St. John's, Toronto, Ottawa, Brandon and Winnipeg. I have a fondness for living next to the ocean.
InterestsFor the last 15 years or so, I've raised bonsai trees. I've had a few ongoing successes, and a number of casualties. I have been learning and practicing Tai Chi.
Favorite musicMy interests alternate between jazz and classical music. In the jazz mode, I enjoy the piano-based trios of Bill Evans and Oscar Peterson. On the classical front, I enjoy opera, especially the traditional works. Beethoven and Mozart are two of my favourite composers.
