Gender Female
Occupation Physical Therapist Assistant

Introduction I am a 51 year old woman, about 2.5 years past menopause, who has a family history of breast and ovarian cancer. I had an ovarian cyst that was followed for 10 years with no changes, that doubled in size per an ultrasound done in January 2010. That led to my choice to have a BSO surgery (When both ovaries and both tubes are removed, the term bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy -BSO- is used). I also have used bioidentical hormone replacement therapy over the last 15 years or so which could have affected my statistical cancer risk. Over the past 5 years I have also had several breast biopsies which up until the last one had all been benign or showing atypical hyperplasia. The last one showed a tumor, and it turned out to be malignant. So now, the adventure continues...I started this blog because I couldn't find any information from women who had experienced a BSO post-menopause and how they had fared afterward and I thought someone might be interested in my experience. I am not having any trouble with that-I'm just busy surviving chemo and focusing on living a cancer free life from now on.
