IntroductionI am Steven Patriquin. I graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2007 with a Bachelor of Fine Art. My concentration was in computer animation. Near the end of school, I discovered my love for photography and took as many photography classes as I could. I enjoy taking pictures beyond simple poses. My passion is illustrating children books using creative still-life photography. Working with still-life is more then just setting up objects to photograph. I listen to the objects, letting them guide me in where to place them in shots. I like to have fun when I work. If I'm not having fun while I create, then I can't expect anyone else to have fun when they view my pieces. My favorite photographic process to use is gelatin-silver (black and white). The physicality and control of working in a lab draws me to it. I also like working behind the scenes on feature films. Jim Henson, David Levinthal, Sandy Skoglund, Shel Silverstein, Don Bluth, and Dr. Seuss are artists who have influenced my work. Like them, I'm not afraid to experiment and learn all I can from my mistakes.
