About me

Introduction Preston was diagnosed with Chiari and Syringomyelia in April/May 2008. He had a 20mm cerebellar tonsil herniation. He underwent decompression surgery in June, 2008 at the age of 6years old. Shortly after surgery, he began getting very intense headaches and after a couple trips back to the hospital, he was diagnosed with Pseudotumor Cerebri and had a LP shunt placed. On Christmas Eve, 2008, a routine follow up MRI showed his Chiari returned, with a 9+mm tonsilar decent. His shunt was turned to a high setting (essentially off). Thankfully, a repeat MRI in March, 2009 showed improvement of his Chiari, with only a 4mm tonsillar decent. We are very blessed that Preston is doing wonderful right now. He will continue to be followed by his neurosurgeon...and will hopefully have his shunt removed next summer! Preston had his shunt removed in July, 2010. Thankfully he is feeling good with only occassional symptoms (small headaches and occassional numbness/tingling in his legs/feet).
