| Introduction | Born in Lubbock, Texas, in '48. We moved to Albuquerque in '55. Spent 4 years in the Marines - '67-'71 - as ground radio repairman. Did 6 months in Vietnam with 2nd Btn, 5th Marines. For 30 years I reenacted the life and times of a Confederate infantryman. I have a lovely wife and 3 gorgeous step daughters. [Updated Oct., 2012 - I now have no wife, and only one of the girls will speak to me. Everything changes.] In 1981, a friend gave me a copy of "Atlas Shrugged," and for the next 15 years or more I lived the philosophy of Ayn Rand, Objectivism. I've come to disagree with some of Rand's metaphysical tenets, I have vast respect for her intellect, and honor what she taught me. My political thinking is what I've come to call "classical liberalism," harking to the day when "liberal" referred to individual liberty. There's a lot of Jefferson in me, but there's nothing for modern liberals but contempt. I'm a free-market capitalist. Today, I'm just an old man, looking 61 years right in the eye, (Now 65, and nothing's changed) trying to keep straight right from wrong, and trying to figure out how the hell I'm going to leave my kids a free country. |
| Interests | politics, though the subject sickens me lately, shooting, the War Between the States and most aspects of military history, my 3 darling daughters, plastic scale airplane models |
| Favorite movies | Eldorado, Silverado, Gods and Generals, Mr. Holland's Opus, Saving Private Ryan, The Man from Snowy River, Forrest Gump, Hildago, Sea Biscuit (great book, too!) |
| Favorite music | What they call classic country - stuff from the '50's through the '70's. I can't ABIDE what passes for country music today. Superb musicians, but no melody and damned little rhythm. I also listen to some Beethoven and Mozart, and I grew up on Glenn Miller and the Dorsey brothers |
| Favorite books | The Book of Mormon, Masters of the Air, a bunch (not all) of Louis L'Amour's westerns, The complete verse of Rudyard Kipling, Rhymes of A Red Cross Man (by Robert Service), Atlas Shrugged, Capitalism, the Unknown Ideal (last two by Rand) Time Enough for Love, Starship Troopers (by Heinlein) |
