| Introduction | I grew up in Columbia, SC in a large family. My dear parents raised six sons and two daughters. After graduating from the University of South Carolina in the early seventies, I served on active duty in the Navy for three years.*****After completing active military service and returning to Columbia, I joined the Navy Reserve and served until 1995. Following my active military service, I also completed graduate studies in accounting and finance at the USC School of Business before starting my career as a Certified Public Accountant.***** In 2002, the people of South Carolina elected me State Comptroller General, the Chief Accountant for State government. Before being elected Comptroller General, I served for four years as State Treasurer.***** After the shock of 9/11, I wanted to once again serve in uniform and so I joined the SC State Guard, becoming Deputy Commander of the Guard in 2006. Today I hold the rank of Brigadier General and I’m extremely proud of the men and women who serve with me.***** My family and I are members of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia. |
