About me

InterestsI was born and raised in rural West Virginia and have been painting for most of my life. I first studied oil painting with a private teacher in Worthington, Ohio, and painted only in this medium for many years. After moving to Lilburn, Georgia, I began taking workshops in watercolor and pastel. I now paint in those mediums as well as using collage to create some of my more abstract work. I paints whatever catches my fancy - landscapes, still life, portraits, pets, florals, and abstracts. My oil paintings reflect the classical style in which I was trained while my pastels and watercolors are more impressionistic. My abstracts encompass all mediums. While acknowledging that training and knowledge of one’s tools are necessary for success in any field, I believe that, once basic skills are learned, it is important to find your own voice, whether or not that voice is popular at the time. I also believe it is important to regularly paint and associate with other artists. I, therefore, co-founded the Southern Colours Art Association, a group of artists who meet weekly to paint together. I am a Member of Excellence and past-president of the Southeastern Pastel Society and currently serve on their advisory board.
