About me

Location Columbus, Ohio
Introduction My name is Monica Siemer, a Columbus, Ohio native and daughter of Dorothy Siemer, cofounder of the Holy Family Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry, and of Tom Siemer, 30+ year peace activist (former weapons dealer). I am a member of Christ the King Church. I was a cofounder of the St. Francis Catholic Worker in Washington, D.C. (under a new name now). On a silent retreat in 2005, I believe the Holy Spirit inspired me to open a 3-house Catholic Worker community for battered women and children of foreign decent (targeting the expanding Hispanic and Somali populations here) because of the grave need. Our illegal Hispanic sisters take abuse to not draw attention to themselves. A fourth house for food collection and processing is based on a model of Msgr. Mottet's design in Davenport, "Cafe on the Vine," as well as on Peter Maurin's "farm" ideas (we want side lots to grow food as we did in innter-city D.C., and can it). He is spiritually directing this CW. Currently a Curriculum Coach for a district's ESL Department, I study demographics and help teachers and administrators to ensure the strong education of our immigrant populations.
