| Introduction | 26 years old, part-time physician, full-time naturalist. My first exposure to natural history was probably through the book 'Common Birds' by Salim Ali and Laeeq Futehally. This was in 2006, when I was 6 years old. I still remember sitting in a hotel room in Ziro and drawing the Asian Paradise Flycatcher, using the book as reference. But I really started observing birds when I was about 8, thanks to Sumit Sen's Birds of Kolkata website. Then, with the availability of internet at home, I got introduced to butterflies when I was about 12. All of these happened thanks to my dad's (@debashischowdhury) interest. He spoke to me about his childhood experiences in the marshes of South Kolkata, and mentioned something called 'Damselflies'. Now, I already knew what dragonflies looked like, but this new word fascinated me. |
| Interests | Natural History, Photography, Poetry (of late), Biology, History of Kolkata, Eagles music and Californian culture, Quantum Mechanics |
| Favorite movies | I have rarely seen movies. But I might catch many references, thanks to my quizzing background and general meme knowledge |
| Favorite music | Eagles, George Strait. Don McLean's American Pie. Closer to home, Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Kumar Sanu. S.P. Balasubramaniam's 'Sach Mere Yaar Hai'. |
| Favorite books | I have not read many books by choice, and I am talking about fiction here. Most of them were as a result of being part of the school curriculum. Old Love by Jeffrey Archer is one I liked. I also liked G.B. Shaw's 'Arms and the Man'. There must be more, I'm unable to recall. But outside of that, I'm an avid reader of encyclopedias, reference books on ancient civilizations, mythology, astronomy, history of science. And also enjoy going down rabbitholes on Wikipedia |
