| Introduction | I'm a pretty normal person in most respects. I'm a mom, a friend, a pseudo-therapist, a dinner-table comedian. I love to cook and eat, but I hate to clean up. I like to shop at Goodwill but I think Wal-Mart is cheap. I have a great family and so many awesome friends I can't count them all. I have End Stage Renal Disease. ESRD is a battle that you can never stop fighting, despite the personal, financial and familial devastation it can cause. It's not curable, only manageable and every year over 90,000 people die from ESRD. Some of them are waiting for transplants, some of them give up and stop dialysis, and some of them die from complications from dialysis. More than a few die after exhausting all other options to prolong their lives. This disease isn't talked about. It isn't a popular "cause" but it should be. |
