| Introduction | Amrita Lahiri is a Kuchipudi dancer based in Mumbai. In her Kuchipudi performances, Amrita presents the works of her eminent gurus- Jaikishore Mosalikanti, Swapnasundari, and Vempati Chinna Satyam- as well as choreographies of her own. She began her training in 1986 in Washington, D.C. with Anuradha Nehru, under whose guidance she presented her debut solo program, arangetrum, in 1996 in New Delhi. Since 1996, Amrita also trained in Bharatanatyam with Leela Samson in New Delhi and performed with the group ‘Spanda’ from 2004-2006. Amrita has learnt for two years in New Delhi under Swapnasundari, and since 2006, she has been learning from and performing with Jaikishore Mosalikanti in Chennai. Recent performances have been at major venues all over India. Amrita also teaches in Mumbai. In addition to performances, Amrita is Head of Dance Programming, National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) Mumbai since June 2010. In the past, she has worked in arts management also for Kalakshetra, Chennai, the American Dance Festival, Durham, and Museum Rietberg, Zurich. |
