| Introduction | The Gardener's Kitchen is an exploration of food, a web of ideas and feelings about the origins, production and consumption of the stuff we so often take for granted. It is a place I have arrived after moving away from a career as a zoologist and environmental scientist in order to promote local produce in the Great Southern Region of WA. Having been involved in the establishment of new farmer's markets in the region, I now sell my own produce. Learning about food, its history and the cultures that have interpreted it in their own ways again and again is a never ending exploration and one I am a part of. With more international focus on where our food comes from, organic produce and the idea of the "locavore", I have decided to take a "gap" year with my partner and two kids and go WWOOFing around Europe to find out all we can. |
