IntroductionThe GO Project started at Islington United Church over 10 years ago, out of a desire from the youth group at the time to go on a mission trip. They found it difficult to find an organization that fit with their understanding of theology and our call as Christians to be the hands and feet of this world while being radically welcoming. The youth, along with their fearless minister, Michael Shewburg created their own trip, in their own backyard, and in the years to follow invited others to join their journey. Over our 10 years of ministry within the United Church, The GO Project has run youth programs in seven cities, and children’s adventure camps in over twenty cities and towns across the country. All GO Project programs are safe spaces for people who, identify as LGBTQ+, are of racial or cultural minorities, who are questioning their faith, are longing for a place to belong, are of all physical abilities, desire to create change in their communities and world, and need to both receive and send more love into the world.
