IntroductionAuthor’s bio (my standard spiel): Michael R. Patton, in his own words, “likes to make stuff”. This stuff includes novels, new fables and myths, poetry, cartoons, essays, and videos. The ideas that run through that work can be found in the titles of his books. For example: "Searching for My Best Beliefs" and "My War for Peace". Basically self-taught, he describes his slow, tedious journey of discovery as “crawling blindfolded through the labyrinth”. He has lived and worked all over the United States.
Favorite moviesHere are the films I've returned to, over the years: Kanal, The Last Picture Show, 2001, Clockwork Orange, Women in the Dunes, Hiroshima Mon Amour, Shampoo, Discreet Charm of the Bourgeois, Life of Brian, any silent film of Buster Keaton, Annie Hall, Manhattan, After Hours, Apocalypse Now, Kiss Me Deadly, The Thin Red Line, The Seventh Seal, 8 ½, The Fog of War, Nashville, The Last Wave, Duck Soup. I've recently been looking at the films of Mani Kaul and Michelangelo Antonioni. I don't know if I like Antonioni, but he challenges me, as if to say, "Okay then, try it for yourself if you're so smart." Maybe I will.
Favorite musicjazz, including but not limited to: Keith Jarrett, Hiromi, Magos Herrera, Gary Burton, Youn Sun Nah, Stanley Jordan, Larry Coryell, Bill Evans, Jimmy Smith, and Jessica Willaims. I want to get started on Classical. And speaking of "classical", I will still listen to The Who, The Guess Who, The Doors, The Band, Procol Harum, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, and Patti Smith--when the mood strikes. As for what's happening now in pop music...I don't have a clue.
