| Introduction | Fred Gates here. I'm happily married to a wonderful lady who was one of my best friends. I'm 76 years old, but I can still walk and climb all day, every day up and down our hills and ravines, thru briars and thickets. Plenty of bears and coyotes around here to keep life interesting, so I carry a stout rod about 6 feet long to fend off unfriendly critters. I need a compass when I am hunting ginseng to save extra walking. Roaming the hills is deceptive in an overcast day, and one may end up miles off course without the compass.
