| Introduction | Anthony T. Troncale (BFA-Univ. of Tx; MLS-Pratt Inst. 1991) has been intrigued by Romana Javitz and her incredible story since 1995 when he was assigned to catalog a collection of photographs assembled by Romana Javitz for the Picture Collection. My essay, Worth Beyond Words will open the door to many to the non-artistic, or subjective aspects of photography and printed matter in general. Words on Pictures is important to today’s audience of librarians, educators and social historians when being confronted with the current complexity of image-centered social media. This book brings a bit of perspective when navigating our image-immersed lives. With Romana Javitz’s words and wisdom, future consumers of visual culture will have a historical precedent to meet the challenges ahead. |
