| Introduction | The Personality Plugger was first published on February 15, 1954, and was the newsletter for one of the first music promotion companies in the country, Personality Promotions. Personality and the Plugger would take The Platters to the top of the charts. Other early "plugs" were for Liberace, Lawrence Welk, The Flares, The Penguins, Freddie Bell, The Blockbusters and David Troy (Somerville). Most recent: Francis "Sonny" Dey, Jim Mann, and Soul Sister #1, Marva Whitney, may she rest in peace. |
