IntroductionWhy a prism? Mostly because I think it’s a good representation of what goes on in internal comms. Stuff comes in from one source, or a number of sources (people, projects, the world) and the internal comms prism in the middle combines and refracts that into different streams, depending on who needs to know what, when and how. Internal comms folk don’t invent anything to say. We take what’s available – or we request it if it's not yet available – and make it meaningful to others. How well we marshal this incoming and manage it outgoing defines how successful we’ll be. I started in this field as Internal Communications Manager in 1988 and have been there ever since, so if nothing else I have much experience to draw on. I've worked in many different industry sectors and many cultures. I’ll bring you what I can from what I’ve learned and am still learning and I hope you find it useful and interesting.
