Introduction I retired from full time work after forty-five years combined experience in field botany, herbarium curation, living collections management, biogeography, wilderness travel, rock climbing, gardening and environmental education. I have an active part time work schedule with the Smithsonian Associates, NOVA Parks and the American Horticultural Society in addition to volunteering. Education, BA West Virginia University, Masters Course Work University of Hawaii. Fellow Washington DC Academy of Sciences, Study Tour Leader, Smithsonian Associates. Administrator and interpretive naturalist Meadowlark Botanical Gardens (MBG) from 1997 to 2020 (retired). MBG is a part of the NOVA Parks system, a remarkably progressive conservation and recreation agency preserving over 13,000 acres of open space in Northern Virginia. www.NVRPA.org. Previously I worked at Bishop Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii as an Education Specialist in Natural History and doing herbarium curatorial work focused on Melanesia. During the 80s I worked for Montgomery County Public Schools leading curriculum-based rock climbing, caving, backpacking and rafting trips at the Kingsley Wilderness Project.
Interests First and foremost my family. Plants, Music, Biodiversity Conservation, Geopolitics, Current Events, LGBTQ Rights, Global Women's Rights and advancement, International Travel, Bird Evolution, Plant Geography, Weather and Climate, Human Impact on the Global Environment, The Divinity of Nature in Ancient Cultures, WWII History in the Pacific, Patrol Torpedo Boats, Fender Guitars, Drums, Sports Cars, Island Biogeography, Botanical Gardens, Natural History and Art Museums, Historical Geology, Geomorphology as related to Plant Communities, emerging CRISPR technology.

Favorite Music I am a basic blues and boogie/surf guitar player deeply influenced by Johnny Winter, Alvin Lee, Peter Haycock, Dave Hole, SRV, Rory Gallagher, Nokie Edwards, Ty Tabor, Gary Hoey, Brian Setzer, Dick Dale, Davy Knowls and Muddy Waters. I am also a long time drummer influenced by Bobby Caldwell, Paul Whaley, Billy Cobham, Jerry Gaskill, Keith Moon, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Ed Shawnisee, Anton Fig, Jeff Campitelli, Niel Pert, Dave Wak, David Chase and Ian Pace. I can stand in on basic bass. My faves here are Dug Pennock, Chris Squire and John Entwisel.
