| Introduction | I grew up with a big family in Anaheim moved to Samoa in the late 70s and helped in the family business a Grocery store/rest called Amigos. This is where my love for cooking began and it was a challenge to cook in Samoa because alot of the ingredients weren’t as easily available there. So I learned to make do with what I could get. I would read recipe books & magazines and when I missed the food that I used to eat growing up I would try to imitate the flavors. It wasn’t easy but I kept at it and I loved the challenge. After starting my own family, 6 children my interest increased in cooking & baking it was a challenge to make tasty meals that were affordable for a large family like mine. In the early 90’s our family business burnt down so we all packed up and moved to American Samoa and opened a market with a hot food section. I started getting into baking & Cake decorating, baking is so relaxing to me the work is never too hard and the finished products are always tasty, how can you go wrong! I had initially tried to make a recipe book for my children but never had the time. This is so much easier and fun. From my family to yours Sincerely, Mona Helg. |
