| Introduction | The visual and arts and storytelling has always been part of my life. Growing up, my family lived in a house that was owned by a famous sculptor and painter. He no longer lived there but at the back of the house was a studio filled works of art and raw materials. In the basement a dark room was brimming with cans of 8mm film, which I would hold up to the light in a cracked basement window, and on the top floor my father and mother, both journalists would work. Often, our home was cloaked with the sound of classical music and old typewriters tapping away. The entire house, encapsulating my formative years, was a playground of discovery but also at times mysterious. Years later I would attend art school and also investigate a career in photojournalism but eventually I settled in my natural home, cinema, finding a word which echoed my childhood in creative diversity.
