Introduction I first met Dan when I was 30 years old. We were both young staff members at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. We were both technical problem solvers. Politics was never discussed. Although a scientist, I was most interested in science for the fundamental understanding it provided as the necessary “tool” for designing and manufacturing products for specific applications, rather than for the scientific interest itself. After retirement, Dan was the one that perked my interest in macroeconomics, and especially MMT. Like my interest in science, I was driven to understand how money and our banking system works because I recognized that that knowledge is necessary to unlock the economic and political barriers preventing us from returning to an age of prosperity channeling the “Golden age of American Capitalism,” initiated and defined by FDR’s New Deal policies. Let’s get to work!
