Introduction	My work is focused around the concept of beauty. It explores different ways in which we perceive beauty, how we understand, acknowledge and express it. Specific qualities of beauty which interest me are those derived from ancient oriental philosophies which praise the idea of imperfection as perfection. In contrast I also like to explore today’s contemporary perceptions of beauty, particularly within the female figure, exploring its intimate form alongside its decoration and adornment. It is this strong contrast between philosophies of the East with contemporary visions of the West which inspires me to create a sense of beauty which can be both conventional and unconventional. I work in ceramics, mainly using porcelain for its pure white colour and sensual handling. My pieces are slip cast or wheel thrown, often using my own natural tools, then manipulating by hand. My glazes are most often reduction fired as these impose a sense of individuality and create a unique beauty.
